“Kids are naturally curious. Curiosity Club offers a space where kids can use their imagination to explore new ideas! From painting with ketchup to imagining all the ways a paper clip can be used, Ms. Katie Leigh, the 2020 Indiana Teacher of the Year, guides children through the many ways they can use their imagination and explore the world around them.
As the COVID-19 pandemic spread, school shutdowns meant children were stuck at home. Following conversations with the Indiana Department of Education about how to engage children during this time, WFYI looked for ways to utilize our over-the-air signal to engage children in learning. Soon, Curiosity Club—the collaborative brainchild of a local station, an art teacher, and a creative parent—was born.
Using inviting language, playful music, and colorful handmade stop motion graphics made by Ms. Pourcho, this digital short series immediately grabs the attention of the viewer. Each of the six 1-minute spots focused on a different curious theme and ends with a call to action, inviting children to explore more. The spots aired as interstitials on WFYI-1 and WFYI-3, were shared with all IPBS stations and the Indiana DOE, and currently live on wfyi.org, pbs.org, and WFYI’s YouTube page for on-demand viewing.”
